As part of the grant Keeping the Value With The Farm: Finding Food Messaging that Works, led by Dr. Leah Greden Mathews, I joined a group of diverse research fellows. I analyzed a wide range of texts during grounded theory techniques, from archival materials to oral history interviews to an episode of Bizarre Foods.

During the original research, I found a startling discrepancy between portrayals of Appalachians of all ethnicities and their food in both turn-of-the-century reform initiatives and contemporary times.
